Rotavirus belongs to the group of acute intestinal infections, which also includes dysentery, salmonellosis, typhoid fever, cholera, yersiniosis, foodborne toxic infections, and norovirus infection. The incidence of these infections typically increases during the summer and autumn months.

-"During the summer season of 2024, a decrease in the incidence of acute intestinal infections has been observed in Sochi compared to last year. In the first seven months of the current year, the incidence of rotavirus infection has shown stable average indicators, accounting for 21 percent of the total number of intestinal infections,"- reported the press service of Rospotrebnadzor.

Infection occurs when the pathogen enters the human body through the mouth, dirty hands, contaminated devices, infected food, or drinking water of uncertain quality. Experts do not associate rotavirus infection rates with the quality of seawater. According to Rospotrebnadzor, the seawater at the resorts of the Krasnodar Territory meets established sanitary requirements. Since the beginning of the year, 29,240 laboratory tests of seawater have been conducted along the coast of Kuban.
