In the upcoming summer season, Cypriots should hardly wait for Russian tourists, said Russian Ambassador to Cyprus Stanislav Osadchy.

According to him, tourists from the Russian Federation, who are one of the main sources of income of the island state from tourism, will probably choose Turkey as a vacation destination.

The Ambassador explained this by the closure of the EU airspace for Russian airlines.

The pessimistic assessment of the Russian diplomat is shared by Cyprus Finance Minister Konstantinos Petrides.

“Based on our estimates, we expected to have one million tourists from Ukraine and Russia this year, some 20-25 per cent of the tourist market of Cyprus. Τhe key is the duration of this crisis. If this ends in a month, we will come out unscathed. If it lasts more, no economy will manage to come out clean,” SchengenVisaInfo.com quotes him as saying.
