The water of the Black Sea near Gelendzhik turned red. According to the Russian Geographical Society, the water turned red after the storm. The "bloody" color of the sea was given by specific algae, which began to actively populate the coastal areas. However, this phenomenon is pretty common for the Black Sea.
"Last year our specialists went to the site, took samples of sea water, in which fragments of red multicellular algae were found," said the deputy head of the commission of landscape geochemistry and technosphere safety of the Krasnodar regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society, director of the Novorossiysk educational and research marine Biological Center of the Kuban State University, Irina Matasova.
The press service of the Gelendzhik administration assured that the crimson water is not a dangerous phenomenon.
Nevertheless, experts warn residents and guests of the resort that they should abstain from swimming.
