In 2019, China met its obligations to provide hygienic amenities for tourists, opening 22.3 thousand toilets in the most popular destinations, which is 117% of the annual target. In general, according to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China, over the past two years, the number of newly installed or updated tourist toilets has reached 52.6 thousand.

According to the agency’s representative, Li Hong, the ministry, in cooperation with Baidu, a developer of the Chinese search engine, prepared online maps for tourists, which helps them find the closest bathrooms using the Baidu Map application. To date, according to Lee, about 98 thousand tourist toilets are marked on this digital map.

In 2015, China launched the “toilet revolution” to increase the number of toilets in tourist facilities, and now implements this program ahead of schedule.
