On April 11, 2025, a meeting of the Governmental Commission on Tourism, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Chernyshenko, took place in Zavidovo. The event brought together representatives of federal and regional authorities, tour operators, industry experts, and heads of relevant ministries.
Opening the meeting, Dmitry Chernyshenko summarized the results of the past year and the winter season, emphasizing that tourism has become one of the most dynamically developing sectors:
"Following the results of 2024, we achieved all the planned indicators of the national project 'Tourism and Hospitality Industry.' The number of tourist trips exceeded 90 million people. This is 37% higher than in 2021. We already have over 872,000 rooms in classified accommodation facilities, and the number of foreign tourists amounted to 9.7 million people. We see that interest continues to grow. The successful implementation of the national project allowed us to extend it until 2030. The goals of the national project 'Tourism and Hospitality' are quite ambitious. First of all, it is necessary to increase the share of tourism in GDP from the current 2.9% to 5% by 2030, and to triple the export of tourism services," stated Dmitry Chernyshenko.
Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation Maxim Reshetnikov confirmed the positive trend: "The tourism sector continues to grow. We see this from the preliminary results of last year. We already have 85 million trips. We expect that after processing the reports of small businesses, we will reach the forecast figure of more than 90 million trips, which is an additional 9% compared to last year. This winter season, from December to February, 18 million tourist trips were made, which is 7.4% more than in the previous year," noted the head of the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia.
Particular attention at the meeting was paid to the preparation for the "Travel!" International Tourism Forum, organized by the Roscongress Foundation, which will be held in Moscow from June 10 to 15, 2025. Dmitry Chernyshenko emphasized its importance and urged the regions to actively participate in the Forum, presenting their tourism opportunities to a wide audience.
The Forum will include the presentation of a ranking of regions based on the development of domestic tourism, which is currently being developed by the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation. According to Maxim Reshetnikov: "The Ministry of Economic Development is preparing a ranking of regions based on the development of domestic tourism, which will be presented at the 'Travel!' forum in June. I ask you to discuss the methodology for forming such a ranking with the regions, to inform them so that our colleagues on the ground are aware and also count on the support of the relevant commission of the State Council on Tourism," added the minister.
Measures to improve tourism infrastructure, ensure transport accessibility, enhance the safety of travelers, expand digital services, and train personnel were also discussed at the meeting.
