Ecotourism in Crimea aims to preserve the environment
An unauthorized landfill that had existed for almost 100 years has been eliminated in the city of Kineshma, Ivanovo Region. This was reported on its website by the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources.
“The landfill closure is a long-awaited event for 80,000 city residents who suffered from the smell of burning from the landfill. The landfill was formed spontaneously back in the 1930s. Over this time, almost 747 thousand cubic meters of waste had accumulated on an area of 11.3 hectares. The landfill caught fire repeatedly,” the message says.
The landfill was closed in 2021, and two years later, its phased liquidation began. Specialists formed the landfill body, equipped engineering systems for degassing, collecting, and cleaning the filtrate. Isolation layers were laid at the site to prevent the penetration of pollutants into the environment. Wells drilled at the site will help monitor the quality of groundwater.
The landfill was removed under the federal project "Clean Country" within the national project "Ecology".
In 2023, within the framework of this project, a large city landfill in Ivanovo was also liquidated. Its area occupied more than 9 hectares. There were over 300 thousand cubic meters of waste. The positive effect of the work affected 400 thousand residents. This year, work is being completed at another facility in the city of Navoloki.
"Clean Country" is a federal project under which the most dangerous accumulated waste sites and landfills within city boundaries are being cleaned up in the country. The project "General Cleaning" will be the continuation of the project from 2025.
