Hardly had the 2024 Christmas events ended, when the European Christmas City for 2025 was already selected. According to the “Network of Christmas Cities” organization, it is the Slovenian city of Celje.

Located at the foot of a hill crowned by a majestic castle, Celje is historically significant as the center of an independent Slovenian state during the Middle Ages. The city is rich in architectural monuments, museums, and cathedrals. Surrounded by hills and rivers, Celje also attracts visitors with its thermal springs and picturesque views.

Every December, Celje transforms into a fairy-tale city thanks to the magical "Fairy Tale Celje": a Christmas market near the castle. It offers free entertainment for all ages: gingerbread cookies from a biscuit factory, handmade souvenirs, ballet performances, Christmas carols, and rock concerts. The city's tourist offices organize tours of the old town streets and invite visitors to a festive extravaganza at Celje Castle. And all this is done in colorful illuminated decorations.

The "Network of Christmas Cities" is an organization supported by the European Parliament. Each year, it announces the best places to celebrate Christmas. Celje has won the title, which is awarded to cities with a population of 10,000 to 100,000 people.
