Ecotourism in Crimea aims to preserve the environment
A recent international scientific conference in Makhachkala, Russia, highlighted the critical threats facing the Caspian seal due to the declining water levels of the Caspian Sea.
Scientists from various Caspian Sea littoral states gathered to discuss the latest research on the Caspian seal and its habitat. They expressed deep concern about the future of this endangered species, which is listed in the Red Book of the Russian Federation and protected in other Caspian countries.
The conference participants noted that while the overall population of Caspian seals has remained relatively stable in recent years, fluctuating between 274,000 and 305,000 individuals, the declining water levels and changes in ice conditions in the northern Caspian Sea pose significant threats to the species' survival.
