Belgian Bruges with a population of about 120,000 has been named the most popular urban tourist destination in Europe. According to the German company Statista, specializing in market and consumer data, in 2023, Bruges, which is called the "Venice of the North" because of the river channels that permeate the city, was visited by a record more than 8.3 million tourists. They mostly stayed here during the summer months for no more than one day.

In terms of per capita, the city in the Dutch-speaking region of Flanders received 69 tourists. Bruges is followed by Dubrovnik (30 travelers - despite the fact that the average duration of their stay in Croatian was several days), the Spanish coastal city of Lloret de Mar (31), Venice (23), the city of Nice on the Cote d'Azur (14), Lisbon (12).
