Banja Luka, the second-largest city in Bosnia and Herzegovina, will kick off its holiday season on December 1st. The city will be illuminated with festive lights at 6 PM, and fairies and elves will roam the streets. The highlight of the evening will be the lighting of the city's Christmas tree by Santa Claus in the central park.
A Christmas market will also open in the main square, offering a variety of sweets, treats, and Christmas decorations. However, the cost of these items has significantly increased compared to last year. Local residents are facing a dilemma, having to choose between high-quality but expensive products and cheaper, potentially lower-quality alternatives.
Christmas trees, in particular, have seen a steep price increase. A two-meter-tall tree can cost up to 500 Bosnian Marks (approximately €256), while smaller trees start at around 20 Marks (€10.3). The price depends on the tree's height, the density of its branches, and the color of its needles.
Despite the rising costs, children can still look forward to receiving gifts under the Christmas tree, and adults can enjoy a delightful musical program in Petar Kočić Park, a popular recreational area in Banja Luka.
