The State Tourism Agency of Azerbaijan has reported that the number of visitors to its nature reserves and museums increased by 35% last year. These include the Yanar Dag natural reserve, the Ateshgah Fire Temple, the Kish and Lahij reserves, and several other museums and historical sites.
Last year, these attractions were visited by over 600,000 people. This statistic includes tourists who purchased entrance tickets. Around 70% of the total visitors were foreigners – slightly more than 460,000 people. This is 48% more than in 2023. Another 200,000 tourists were Azerbaijani citizens. In total, ticket sales generated nearly 5.8 million manats in revenue.
The report notes that approximately 107,000 people took advantage of the free admission to museums and reserves managed by the agency.
Last year, a new mud volcano complex opened in Azerbaijan for tourists, which has already been visited by 22,000 people. 88% of them were foreigners. The tourist complex is located in the Absheron district, 1.5 hours drive from Baku. For tourists, there are guided tours on golf carts and quad bikes. In addition, visitors can relax in a restaurant or visit an exhibition hall with numerous exhibits demonstrating the Earth's evolutionary history.
