Special software was developed at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology to watch Far Eastern leopards, Amur tigers and other animals.
The system was first tested in the Land of the Leopard National Park in Primorye. It is expected to allow to quickly receive information about wild animals and monitor the state of the populations of the rarest cats on the planet.
The technology is currently being tested in seven federal protected areas. The program enables to semi-automatically analyze and sort photos and videos from camera traps.
Camera traps allow accurate monitoring of large areas of natural areas, but the analysis of the data obtained by them takes a lot of time due to the large amount of information.
The neural network processes huge amounts of data in a very short time and with high accuracy. With a test task of processing 7,500 photographs of animals from the National Park "Land of the Leopard", a medium-powered computer coped in just an hour. In manual mode, it takes a whole working day.
The press service of the national park noted that research on various animal species is important for the conservation of the Far Eastern leopard and tiger.
