Angola’s national airline, TAAG Angola, has resumed flights on the Windhoek to Luanda route after more than a year and a half of inactivity due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
TAAG Angola recommenced flights on 21 October and its last flight on this route was on 19 March 2020 as the pandemic threatened to wreak havoc.
“We recommit to this route and it is our wish that we service it for many years to come,” TAAG Team Leader Carla Duarte was quoted as saying by Namibia Economist.
Last week’s flight only had 64 passengers but more passengers are expected on future flights.
The airline will have two flights a week on Mondays and Thursdays.
“We are excited to have TAAG Angola back on our shores,” said Namibia Airports Company (NAC) chief executive Bisey /Uirab.
“…air transport enables millions of people to connect in cultural exchange, and it also boosts the tourism industry, which is a major economic factor both in the origin countries and in the tourist destination countries.”
TAAG Angola will now join Airlink, FlyWestair, Ethiopian Airways and Eurowings Discover, all using Hosea Kutako as the port of entry into Namibia.
