An unusual museum “House of Suranov” opened in Kolomna

A new tourist attraction has appeared in Kolomna - the “House of Suranov” museum. The official website of the city administration reported this. The museum is housed in a restored ancient estate, which is an object of cultural heritage of regional significance - more than one generation of Kolomna merchants lived in it.

As noted in the message, the monument was in an unsightly state for a long time and was collapsing, until, by decision of the leadership of the Moscow region, it was transferred to the use of the Kolomensky Posad educational tourism center.

Last fall, restoration of the estate began.

“This project is important for the city. Suranov's house has been waiting for restoration for a very long time. There are no analogues to this museum either in Russia or in Europe. Memorial furniture and the history of the house, which was built in 1799, have been preserved here,” said Natalya Nikitina, director of the Kolomensky Posad cente.

In the small rooms of the estate there are antique furniture and household items, among them many original things handed down by the descendants of the Suranovs. All this can be picked up and examined.

According to the description on the website of the Kolomensky Posad center, there are several formats for visiting the museum.

One of them promises the greatest immersion in the merchant life of the end of the century before last - “you can disconnect from the problems of the 21st century, put your phone in the safe, change into clothes of the end of the 19th century, and live for 24 hours in a historical house.”

“All residents of the Suranov House follow the daily routine and activities of the merchant family of the late 19th century. This path can be chosen by couples, families with children and groups of friends of up to 5 people,” the center noted.

For future residents of the Suranov House, together with historians, cultural experts and experts, a video guide has been developed that will help prepare for a journey into the past and get acquainted with the way of life, activities, etiquette, fashion and culture of Kolomna merchants of the late 19th century.

The estate building belongs to the buildings that characterize the urban environment of Kolomna during the late classicism period. As noted on the city administration’s website, the initial period of the house’s history is associated with the Posokhin family, who owned it from the moment of its construction until 1859.

“At this time, the house was sold in parts to the merchants of the 3rd guild of I.I. Suranov and I.A. Isaev. By the beginning of the 20th century. and until the 1920-1930s. descendants of I.I. lived in the house. Suranova. In subsequent years, the building first housed communal apartments, and then offices of various institutions,” the report says.
