A mobile game, created in Russia, helps planting real trees

A mobile game, that has been created in Russia, allows its users to plant real trees and influence the Earth’s climate. As EcoTourism Expert came to know, the game, which is called “Plant The Forest”, is about restoring the forest that died from bushfires. Players can complete exciting quests and learn fascinating facts about the forest ecosystem. The main part of funds raised from users' purchases is directed to reforestation companies, which plant the trees. Players will receive photos and GPS coordinates of the planted trees.

Thus, the game created in the genre of Match 3 combines the virtual world and reality and allows the users to increase the number of actually planted living trees in Eurasia.

In the real world, the project is carried out by the PosadiLes.ru and by the activists of the the game’s publisher «ECA» Movement.

The decrease in forest area has a disastrous influence on the Earth’s climate change. Forest is involved in many ecosystems being a catalyst for environmental changes. Deforestation in one place of the Earth leads to an average annual temperature increase as well as floods and droughts, soil erosion and biodiversity erosion.

‘Plant The Forest’ is not only an educational game but also a real opportunity to make a contribution to prevent an environmental disaster in the real world.

According to ECA Director Elena Gorokhova, the project is designed to draw attention to the global problem of forest fires and addresses the reduction of the “green lungs of the Earth”, it gives players knowledge and practical tools to change the situation.

Since 2010, the ECA movement has planted more than 10 million trees in 47 regions of Russia.

The PosadiLes project http://posadiles.ru/, created in 2015, is a permanent crowdfunding platform aimed at involving the community in the forest restoration. Over 5 years of its existence, the posadiles.ru project has planted more than 700,000 trees in affected forest areas in 22 regions of Russia.
