As of today, 166 forest fires in 28 regions have been eliminated in Russia. The area covered with fires was 2,934 hectares.
Despite the operational work of firefighters, firefighting continues in 13 constituent entities of Russia. According to the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation, the work is currently underway to extinguish another 65 forest fires.
“The largest number of fires that have not been extinguished to date have been recorded in the Tyumen region - 20 fires on a total area of 22310 hectares. A forest emergency regime has been introduced on the territory,” the agency's website says.
Fires were extinguished in the Perm, Altai, Krasnoyarsk, Kamchatka, Trans-Baikal regions; in Ivanovo, Moscow, Vladimir, Belgorod, Kirov, Nizhny Novgorod, Orenburg, Kurgan, St Petersburg, Samara, Penza, Sverdlovsk, Tyumen, Chelyabinsk, Novosibirsk, Omsk, Amur; the republics of Bashkortostan, Mari El, Komi, Udmurtia, Sakha (Yakutia); Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous District.
It is reported that the fires in 70% of cases are caused by careless handling of fire, non-observance of fire safety rules in forests and areas adjacent to forests.
In 52 constituent entities of Russia a special fire regime was introduced.
