The press service of the "Clean Arctic" reported that the issue of creating this system is already being worked out by the Ministry of Natural Resources together with Roshydromet and Rosatom.
"Eco-monitoring will include the development of the state observation network and the creation of an information system for collecting, storing, analyzing and disseminating information on the state and pollution of the environment in the NSR. The development of the concept and programs, as well as its financial and economic justification, is planned to be completed by April 2023 year," the statement said.
As expected, the monitoring will allow us to more accurately determine the possible types of human activity in the Arctic, as well as show the consequences of them and suggest ways to compensate. In addition, with its help it will be possible to predict changes in the environment and, if necessary, adjust the routes of ships, making them faster and safer.
Currently, environmental studies of the Northern Sea Route are already being carried out by Rosatom as part of a joint project with the Marine Research Center of Moscow State University. The studies were carried out at 50 complex stations along the entire length of the NSR. 60 people and 15 organizations from different countries worked on the project. In two and a half months of field research, the ships covered 5,000 nautical miles. The results of the analysis will be absolutely open and available to any scientist in the world. The next step is to make such studies permanent.
Roshydromet and JSC Admiralty Shipyards signed a contract for the construction of a new vessel "Ivan Frolov", which will be part of the fleet of the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute, the press service of the Ministry of Natural Resources reported
