This week, a meeting took place in the Federation Council with the head of Norilsk Dmitry Karasev and Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Nikolai Zhuravlev, where they discussed the progress of the implementation of the city’s comprehensive social and economic development plan, initiated by the Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko five years ago.
One of the key points of the plan is the renovation of the housing stock. Last week, a ceremony was held in Norilsk to hand over the keys to residents of new homes built under this program. The housewarming was celebrated by large families, residents of emergency housing, and invited specialists who came to work in the northern city. This event is of great significance for Norilsk, as no new housing has been built there for 30 years. This has affected not only the city’s appearance but also the quality of life of its residents.
In addition, as part of the comprehensive development plan, problems with social infrastructure are being addressed. Social facilities in Norilsk have been updated: a sports complex, a kindergarten, and a social center have been built. All these facilities are under the special control of the Federation Council.
Along with infrastructure development, steps are being taken to improve the environmental situation. The company "Norilsk Nickel" launched the "Sulfur Project," which has allowed the company to reduce its emissions by nearly 50%. At the end of last year, an online air quality monitoring system was launched in Norilsk, available to all city residents on the city hall website, as stated by Nikolai Zhuravlev on his Telegram channel.
Further development of the city is planned: in the coming days, another house will be completed, four others are under construction, and this year, the construction of three mid-rise buildings will begin.
Thus, thanks to the comprehensive plan, Norilsk is gradually overcoming long-standing problems, improving the lives of its residents and the environmental situation.
