Nornickel has proposed expanding the "Affordable Rental Housing in the Far East" program, already operating in the Far East, to the Arctic regions. This was reported by the TASS news agency.
According to the company, this will help solve a number of problems related to attracting and retaining personnel in harsh climatic conditions.
The program involves providing employees with comfortable housing at a reduced rental rate. Part of the rental costs is covered by the federal and regional budgets.
The company's initiative is linked to the implementation of a large-scale environmental project, the "Sulfur Project," which requires attracting a large number of specialists. Comfortable living conditions need to be created for them.
"In order to implement this program ("Sulfur Project" - TASS note), we involved up to 4,000 employees, brought them from the "mainland". We built a work city, then dismantled this city. We have a program - the Ministry for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic has prepared the "Affordable Rental Housing in the Far East" program, and of course, for us, this program is an example for the Arctic zone. And it would be very good to extend the rental housing to the Arctic zone, because it solves many production problems," the agency quoted Andrey Grachev, Vice President of Nornickel, as saying.
In addition, Nornickel is actively engaged in the development of Norilsk: updating the housing stock, building medical institutions, and improving the environmental situation.
According to the company, the spread of the Far East experience to the Arctic will create attractive living and working conditions in the northern regions and accelerate their development.
