Norilsk Nickel invested 11 billion rubles in two years in the implementation of a large-scale project to rid the lands in the north of the Krasnoyarsk Territory of industrial waste, scrap metal and abandoned structures, said Andrey Raduntsev, head of the Department for Work with territories and landscaping of the Polar Branch of Norilsk Nickel.
The Clean Norilsk program is designed for ten years, its total budget will be about 40 billion rubles.
According to Randuntsev, the funds allocated by Norilsk Nickel are directed both directly to cleaning and to the purchase of equipment, as well as to the formation of a specialized unit and recruitment of personnel.
"Given the remoteness of the Norilsk industrial district, the total duration of the program will be ten years. During this time, it is necessary to dismantle more than 500 units of unattended structures, remove up to two million tons of waste and more than 600,000 tons of scrap metal. The total area of the cleaning area is 24 million square meters," Raduntsev said.
Since the beginning of the implementation of the Clean Norilsk project, 262 emergency and unused facilities have already been dismantled, 814,000 tons of garbage, 71,000 tons of scrap metal have been collected, an area of 2.6 million square meters has been cleared. In addition to cleaning, the program involves the removal and recycling of waste, as well as recultivation of lands, sgnorilsk.ru writes.
