More than 26 tons of waste collected in the Zhigansky district under the Clean Arctic project

Yakutia was one of the first in Russia to adopt a regional strategy for the development of the Arctic regions, which made it possible to take a confident start in solving not only social and infrastructural tasks, but also to pay special attention to environmental issues and the implementation of the federal project "Clean Arctic". This was announced by the First Deputy Minister for the Development of the Arctic and the Affairs of the Peoples of the North of the Republic Sergey Neustroev.

"Within the framework of the federal project "Clean Arctic" for 2023, we set ourselves tasks, firstly, with the removal of scrap metal collected last year from the accumulation sites. Given the complex transport scheme, the lack of highways, short navigation times and the actions of winter trucks, this is a rather time-consuming task that is performed in difficult conditions. It is worth noting that this year the geography of the project will be expanded. In June of this year, in the Zhigan National Evenki district, in just six days, Clean Arctic volunteers and local residents collected 26.8 tons of metal, dead wood and plastic. The total area of harvesting was 1.5 hectares. In 2023, we plan to hold such actions in the Bulunsky, Verkhoyansky and Ust-Yansky districts," Neustroev said.

According to him, at the beginning of April this year, about 40 tons of scrap metal arrived in Yakutsk and were transferred to the company JSC "Vtormet-DV" for further processing and disposal.

In turn, more than 1,800 tons of scrap metal were collected by the company "Articvtormet" during the past year. The company's plans this year include the tasks of accumulating and storing the remaining scrap metal in the village of Tiksi.

For its part, LLC "East Siberian Supply Company" has collected and prepared for shipment in the village of Ust-Kuiga, Ust-Yansky district, about 950 tons of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal, ysia.ru reports.
