The press service of the "Clean Arctic" project announced the completion of the first cleaning of the Arctic territories in the Republic of Karelia. Local residents and volunteers from six regions of the country cleaned up the White Sea petroglyphs, along the White Sea coast in the Rastnavolok tract and at the Voitsky Padun waterfall.
In total, the volunteers managed to remove 12,200 kg of various waste on an area of 100 hectares. In addition, they removed 7 tons of deadwood. As expected, in the future, the project will clean up the shorelines of lakes Lindozero and Kontokkiyarvi, the territory of the Kostomuksha urban district, the former sawmill and woodworking plant in Belomorsk, the city park in the Kemsky district and other objects.
Last year, 380 volunteers took part in the project on the territory of the Republic of Karelia and collected 355 tons of waste.
