The press service of the Russian Geographical Society has announced that the Arctic expedition "Icebreaker of Knowledge" has departed from Murmansk for the North Pole. On board the nuclear-powered icebreaker "50 Years of Victory" is a team of talented schoolchildren and experts from 15 countries.
The icebreaker will follow the route Murmansk – North Pole – Franz Josef Land – Murmansk. The vessel is expected to reach the top of the world around August 17. There, expedition participants will install flags of their countries and regions.
The team includes winners of the open competition of the "Icebreaker of Knowledge" project, finalists of the All-Russian competition "Big Change", and participants of the "Junior Rosatom" movement. A total of 63 talented schoolchildren,including 10 children from Mongolia, Hungary, India, China, and South Africa, have joined the expedition.
En route, students will be able to significantly expand their knowledge through the educational program and witness the mesmerizing world of the high-latitude Arctic. Lectures, workshops, scientific games, and film screenings will be held on board.
Also joining the ship are Oleg Yanovsky, winner of the All-Russian competition "Teacher of the Year of Russia - 2023",Ivan Zarubin, winner of the All-Russian competition of pedagogical achievements "Master of the Year - 2023", and Lidia Seliverstova, winner of the educational project "Atomic Lesson - 2023".
