According to the experts of the Project Office for the Development of the Arctic (PORA), environmental awareness in children should be raised from an early age.
Nikolai Doronin, Chairman of the Board of PORA, noted that young people have recently become increasingly anxious about various environmental problems. This condition can eventually develop into apathy or inactivity.
Doronin considers eco-education to be a good way to take into account the request of the younger generation.
"It is important to direct efforts towards raising children's environmental consciousness, since it is much more difficult to change adults," the PORA press service quotes the expert as saying.
Doronin mentioned the White Bear environmental education center, where serious environmental issues are studied in the process of children's creativity. In it, children explore Arctic ecosystems through creativity and digital tools.
Pupils of the center make crafts and scientific presentations. When children participate and win in city and regional competitions, their parents rejoice at such success and become interested in environmental issues themselves.
“This is how it turns out to instill good habits in children, and through them already broadcast environmental knowledge to parents,” the expert emphasizes.
Such work allows adults to be involved in environmental actions and there is a certain continuity.
