This is reported by the Corporation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic (KRDV) on its website. One of the main topics discussed during the event was the development of tourism in the Russian north.
At a panel session dedicated to this topic, Maria Badmatsyrenova, Deputy Director of the Department for Monitoring Law Enforcement of the KRDV, spoke about tourist projects of residents of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation.
“Today, in six subjects of the Russian Arctic - the Murmansk and Arkhangelsk regions, the Krasnoyarsk Territory, the Nenets and Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrugs, the Republic of Karelia - new hotel complexes, recreation centers and glampings are being created, tourist routes are being built and ski resorts are expanding, ”her words are quoted in corporation message.
As Badmatsyrenova noted, the KRDV is trying to make investment conditions in the Arctic region better and more accessible, but there are still a number of issues that require elaboration and an integrated approach. Among them are cruise tourism and transport accessibility, safety of passenger and children transportation, accelerated allocation of land for the implementation of tourism projects while respecting the interests of the indigenous population of the Russian North and preserving unique natural areas.
According to the KRDV, the tourism sector is one of the leaders in terms of the number of new investment projects.
At the same time, the participants in the discussion agreed that tourism for the northern regions cannot be massive, since the nature of the Arctic is fragile and tender.
Founder and CEO of RussiaDiscovery Vadim Mamontov spoke about the most attractive places for adventure tourism in the regions.
“For example, in Yakutia - Lena Pillars and event stories; in Chukotka, you can look into the eyes of a polar bear and see how whales wag their tails. Fans of river cruises can make a trip along the Yenisei. In Yamal, tourists are invited to visit reindeer herders, in Murmansk and the Nenets Autonomous Okrug they are invited to go hunting for the northern lights, and in the Arkhangelsk region they are invited to meet shipbuilders and visit the sights of the Solovetsky archipelago, the history of which has been developed for about 7,000 years.
Oksana Svetlova, Minister of Culture of the Arkhangelsk Region, and Victoria Chulanova, Deputy Director of the Norilsk Development Agency, shared practical examples of creating tourism projects. For example, in Pomorye you can feel like a real yachtsman by taking part in the races of the northernmost sailing regatta in Russia - the Solovetsky, which has been held annually for almost half a century a few miles from the Arctic Circle. In Norilsk, in 2023, they propose to become a pioneer of a new city route with totems and symbols of the North. And fans of IT technologies and underground labyrinths have access to the northernmost crypto-farm and the underground test site in the Anhydrite mine, the report says.
