In Salekhard, scientists from the Scientific Center for Arctic Studies, with the assistance of the Russian Arctic Development Center, drilled the first three hydrogeological wells. They are designed to monitor the level of groundwater and its chemical composition. In the coming years, a network of observation wells will be created in Yamal. This was reported by the portal of the regional government.
"The wells were drilled in the least studied hydrogeologically areas of the city at a depth of 10 to 25 meters. In the near future, special equipment will be installed there, after which they will become key tools for monitoring the processes taking place in the earth. Scientists will be able to characterize the conditions of occurrence and nutrition of groundwater. We have started the systematic arrangement of a hydrogeological network for monitoring groundwater and surface waters," Anna Bashkova, a researcher at the cryosphere sector of the Scientific Center for Arctic Studies, quotes the portal.
According to her, the data obtained will serve as the basis for the design of urban infrastructure for many years to come.
As noted in the government of Yamal, in addition to conducting hydrogeological surveys, geotechnical monitoring of the state of permafrost continues in the district.
The results of both studies will allow not only to design urban facilities correctly, but also to prevent emergencies, the portal reported.
