Russia’s deputy prime minister Yuri Trutnev and governor of the Murmansk Region Andrey Chibis proposed declaring 2027 the Year of the Arctic in Russia.

At a working meeting in the government of the Russian Federation, they stated that such a step is intended to emphasize Russia's leading role in the development of the Arctic region.

At the same time, authorities plan paying special attention to Murmansk as the center of the country’s Arctic activity, where the International Arctic Forum 2027 will be held, the press service of the Ministry of Information Policy of the Murmansk Region reports.

To date, the least explored part of the Russian Arctic is the coast of the Arctic Ocean from the Kara to the Chukchi Seas.
