The press service of the Mospriroda reported that the pine marten again settled in the Izmailovo Natural and Historical Park. The secretive animal was noticed in the crown of a pine tree by specialists of the department together with members of the ornithological circle "Feathers +". The pine marten has not been recorded in Izmailovo for the past three years.
This species is listed under the 2nd category of rarity in the Red Book of Moscow. The marten moves through the trees while searching for food. She usually rests in hollows. Martens are mainly arboreal, but can also descend to the ground in search of food. Furry predators prey on shrews, squirrels, birds, lizards and insects. In autumn and winter, martens love to eat mountain ash.
Previously, Mospriroda specialists met pine marten in the Bitsevsky Forest natural and historical park, Zelenogradsky, Tyoply Stan, and Yuzhnoye Butovo nature reserves.
