The construction of modern treatment facilities begin in the Ulyanovsk region

According to the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources, under the framework of the federal project "Improvement of the Volga" in Novoulyanovsk, a complex consisting of mechanical cleaning systems, biological treatment and ultraviolet disinfection will be built. Reconstruction of the treatment facilities of the city will significantly increase their throughput capacity. Work is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2020.

The ministry said that the federal project "Improvement of the Volga" is part of the national project "Ecology". As the result the volume of polluted wastewater discharged into the river the reduction should decrease by 50% by 2024.

Currently, the federal project includes sewage treatment plants on the left and right banks of Ulyanovsk, as well as the upper sewage treatment plants in Novoulyanovsk. 

In addition, design documentation is being developed for the reconstruction of treatment facilities in Dimitrovgrad, Barysh and Inza.

The federal project “Improvement of the Volga” is aimed at improving the ecological condition of the river. It also focuses on measures to restore water bodies of the lower Volga, including additional irrigation of the Akhtuba River.
