Production activity at the Kaula -Kotselvaara mine in the city of Nickel was stopped in November 2023. The authorities want to make it one of the key sites of the tourist cluster in the Pechenga district.

The creation of a tourism cluster is provided for by an agreement between the Murmansk Region and the Norilsk Nickel company.

According to the regional Ministry of the Arctic and Economy, the project is aimed at increasing the prestige of working professions through the creation of industrial tourism in the regions.

It is expected that in conjunction with the region's first ecological and industrial tourist route "Shpil 555", the Kaula - Kotselvaara mine will give Nickel a completely new tourist status.
