Student volunteer eco-projects are becoming more common among young people around the world. This was discussed at the international summit "Siberian Perspective", held in Krasnoyarsk last weekend. The event was attended by experts from EcoTourism Expert, correspondent of the European Bureau, EcoTourism Expert, Dmitry Shaburkin, student of the Faculty of Mathematics at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), environmental volunteer.

One of the areas of work of volunteers is cooperation in the development and promotion of the non-commercial Internet search engine Ecosia. How can an Internet search engine be useful to nature? Virtually all advertising revenue goes to planting trees where you need it most. The volunteers plan to make Ecosia the standard search engine on all TUM campuses. This resource is free, everyone can download it on the Internet.

“Plant a Seed” is the name of another eco-initiative by Tech University students. The idea was originally developed for one of the projects for a Master's in Natural Engineering. But with the participation of students of various specialties, this project very quickly found practical application - a real garden was created on one of the university campuses this spring. And in July, the first radishes were harvested from the beds. This conceptual entertainment is funded through fundraising, that is, donations from those who are not indifferent.

The third project is called Green Mensa. It aims to gradually transform the canteen campuses of universities in an environmentally friendly direction. This is a joint initiative of students from the Technical University of Munich and the Ludwig Maximilian University (the second major university in the capital of the Free State of Bavaria).

The work is to reduce the use of plastic and packaging in general, meat and dairy products, the production of which has a high CO-2 coefficient, the introduction of a seasonal menu and a greater variety of vegetarian, vegan and regional dishes and products. It is also planned to sell unclaimed products, utilize biological waste, etc.

The environmental department of the student council of the university is responsible for organizing TUM student volunteer projects.

The international eco-summit "Siberian Perspective" was held in Krasnoyarsk from October 1 to 3 with the partnership of the Zapovedniki eco-center, UN Global Compact Network Russia, the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation and the Norilsk Nickel company.
