The Press Service of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation has published the results of a joint study with the hotel booking service MTS Travel. According to the study, the number of weekend trips by Russians has increased by 10% compared to last year. The share of such trips is particularly high in the Republic of Karachay-Cherkessia, the Republic of Adygea, and the Vladimir, Kaluga, and Tula regions.
Overall, 40% of the trips taken by Russians this year were on weekends. Typically, people travel for these short trips in their personal cars. The Ministry of Economic Development notes that the growing popularity of this type of vacation is also supported by the development of infrastructure for road tourism.
The largest share of weekend trips was recorded in Karachay-Cherkessia, where 53% of all visits to the region were made between Friday and Sunday, and at least one overnight stay was involved. The main attractions for tourists in the republic are the village of Arkhyz and the settlement of Dombay.
The Vladimir region and the Republic of Adygea are in second place. Popular destinations for tourists are the cities of the Golden Ring, which are convenient for short trips for residents of Central Russia. Tourists visit Adygea to explore the nature of the North Caucasus.
Kaluga and Tula regions are also in demand for weekend trips. They attract tourists not only with historical landmarks but also with various events, such as the "Wild Mint" and "Archstoyanie" festivals.
Still, in absolute numbers, Moscow and the Moscow region traditionally lead in weekend travel, accounting for 13% of all weekend trips. Close behind are St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region, with 8%.
