The «Cold Conquerors» world challenge was launched in Yakutia, Russia. As EcoTourism Expert came to know, its participants will measure extremely low temperatures to find a point with record levels. For this purpose, a special methodology developed by the Russian Meteorological Service will be used.

The preparations for the expedition took almost a year, the organizers promise to change all ideas about the world of extreme sports. The aim of the project is to find and record the coldest temperatures of the inhabited part of the Earth. To do this, participants until January 24 will measure the temperature in two regions of Yakutia, known as the Poles of Cold, Oymyakonsky and Verkhoyansky. The project aims to promote Yakutia as a region with opportunities for extreme tourism. The expedition is attended by journalists and travel bloggers, who are accompanied by experienced guides, including Evenk reindeer herders, as well as a doctor.

The official partners of the project are the Russian Geographical Society (RGO), the local government and the Federal Tourism Agency.

Project participants will go along trial routes, but the organizers of the project hope that such trips will become annual. It is assumed that the scientific expedition will not only draw public attention to the problems of climate change, but also show the possibilities of Russia as a country for Arctic tourism. It will also make the observers come to know the traditions and life of the indigenous peoples of the North. Another task of the expedition is the development of survival practices in extreme conditions that are used by the indigenous peoples of the Arctic.
