On June 5 Russia celebrates the Day of the Ecologist. Tree plantings, "green" campaigns and cleaning of territories are usually organised on this day to attract public’s attention to the ecological problems.

The holidays was officially approved by Russian President Vladimir Putin in 2007.

Moreover, World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated all over the world on June 5 every year.

The topic for 2020 is the conservation of Earth’s biodiversity.

The holiday is designed to draw public attention to environmental issues and the need to preserve nature.
