In the village of Purneme in the Onega district of the Arkhangelsk region, the 17th-century St. Nicholas tent Church was renovated under the program of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation "Conservation 2023". This was announced on its website by the Kenozersky National Park, which manages the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker.
"It was built in the XVII century (1618) and is considered one of the most ancient representatives of the "eight on four with a tent" type in the entire Russian North. Like other temples on the White Sea, the temple in Purnem served as a "lighthouse": it is mentioned in the old Pomeranian sites as an important milestone on the way along the seashore," the message says.
The church is a cultural heritage site.
During the repair, emergency work was carried out here - the ploughshare of the central chapter was partially disassembled, and reliable roofing material was installed instead, the basement and refectory were strengthened, wooden shields covering the windows were dismantled and frames were inserted. A shed has also been built nearby to store historical elements of the church's structure.
Further plans include the development of scientific and design documentation for the restoration of the historical building, the national Park reported.
