The head of Karelia, Artur Parfenchikov, at a meeting of the regional government instructed to increase the share of tourism in GDP in the republic. He set the corresponding task for the regional Ministry of Economic Development. At the same time, special attention is planned to be paid to ecological tourism. This was reported the official portal of the republic.

Increasing the share of tourism in GDP in the region is a feasible task, since Karelia has a high attractiveness for travelers, according to local authorities.

"Our republic has enormous potential for the development of tourism – unique natural resources, cultural and historical heritage, UNESCO cultural heritage sites," the message says.

"It also notes that Parfenchikov "suggests betting on eco-tourism."

"Relevant instructions, for example, to increase the length of ecological trails have already been given by the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Ministry of Economic Development of Karelia," the portal reported.
