The II International Tiger Forum was held on September 5 as part of the Eastern Economic Forum 2022.

The site was visited by more than 2,000 participants from Russia and 44 foreign states and territories.

The President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin opened the business program, saying that "in the world since 2010, the total number of these exceptionally beautiful predators has increased by 40 percent."

“Russia also has something to be proud of. 12 years ago, no more than 390 adult Amur tigers lived in our Far Eastern taiga. Now there are about 750 of them together with cubs,” he said.

The business program included five events. Three sessions focused on the Amur tiger: "Tiger and Science: Study to Conserve", "Environmental Education, Public Outreach for Tiger Conservation and Fundraising", "Best Practices for Tiger Conservation"; one is for the conservation of the Far Eastern leopard. The key event was the plenary session, where representatives of the countries of the tiger range made presentations on the implementation of national plans for the restoration of the striped predator.

Forum participants today not only exchanged experience, but also discussed new threats to the Amur tiger.

The speakers of the Forum were representatives of the scientific community, international environmental organizations, business, government, including the Minister of Justice of the Russian Federation Konstantin Chuichenko, the Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation Alexander Kozlov; Vice Minister of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan Aliya Shalabekova; Khin Maung Yi, Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar; Deputy Director General of the Forestry Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Development of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Pham Van Dien; Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry of the Lao People's Democratic Republic Thongphat Vongmany; Somphot Duangchantrasiri, Senior Professional Scientist, Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Kingdom of Thailand; Director General, Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation, Ministry of Forestry and Environment, Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, Ram Chandra Kandel; Director of the Wildlife and National Parks Department of the Malaysian Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Mohd Taufik Bin Abdul Rahman; State Secretary of the Ministry of Environment of the Kingdom of Cambodia Chea Sam Ang; Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea to the Russian Federation Sin Hong Chol; Member of the Secretary of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) of the Republic of India Satia Prakash Yadav and others.

In addition, 3 heads of federal services and agencies, 13 heads of constituent entities of the Russian Federation, representatives of the Amur Tiger Center and heads of specially protected natural areas and hunting supervision services in the tiger's range visited the Forum site.

The final document of the II International Forum on the Conservation of the Tiger was the Declaration on the restoration and conservation of the tiger. It was accepted by all countries of the range of the striped cat.

“Today we summed up the results of twelve years of work of the countries of the tiger range. According to experts, about five thousand tigers now live in the wild. Their populations have grown in Russia, India, Nepal, Bhutan, Indonesia. This is the result of persistent environmental work of states, public and scientific organizations. But, unfortunately, in some countries the number of tigers, on the contrary, has decreased. Of course, we must understand why this happened and try to improve the situation in the next 12 years. Also, today we have added one more country where the tiger population will be restored. This is Kazakhstan. We hope that everything will work out for them, and by 2034 (when we sum up the results of the next 12-year-old tiger), they will achieve significant results in the reintroduction of the predator in their country,” commented Alexander Kozlov, Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of Russia.

In addition, the solemn opening ceremony of the Tiger House interactive pavilion dedicated to the theme of the II International Tiger Conservation Forum was held at the Far East Street exhibition. The exposition introduces guests to the world of the amazing striped predator, tells about its evolution, as well as the reasons for the catastrophic decline in the world population of this large cat, and the efforts that our country is making to preserve it. For guests and participants of the Tiger Forum and the 7th Eastern Economic Forum, the Tiger House pavilion is open from 5 to 8 September. After the end of the forums, its work will last until September 11. Entrance to the exhibition "Street of the Far East" for residents and guests of Vladivostok is free.
