Torrential downpours and heavy rains are expected to become a common occurrence on the Arabian Peninsula in the coming decades. This is the conclusion reached by experts from the National Center of Meteorology of Saudi Arabia (NCM).
Using a simulation program, scientists were able to model the main climate and weather trends for the period up to 2040 and found that the amount of rainfall will increase significantly on the western coast of the Red Sea, in the east of the kingdom along the coast of the Persian Gulf, and in the southwestern regions of the country.
The frequency of precipitation, which will become a characteristic phenomenon for most regions of Saudi Arabia, and its volume will also increase. According to forecasts, the intensity of rains will only increase by the middle and towards the end of the century. Specialists believe that this data can be extremely useful for long-term national planning, as well as for implementing a strategy for monitoring and managing emergencies.
