The European Commission signed a cooperation agreement with online platforms Airbnb, Booking, Expedia Group and Tripadvisor, which specialize in short-term rentals for tourists.

The agreement will facilitate the creation of more comprehensive statistics on tourist accommodation in Europe and will allow the statistical Agency of the European Union - Eurostat to publish reliable data on services provided by the four companies.

The agreement provides for regular provision by companies of data on rental housing by tourists, protection of confidentiality and publication of statistics for all EU member States in the first half of 2020.

According to Eurostat, in 2019, 21% of EU citizens used specialized websites or apps for renting accommodation when traveling.
