The United Arab Emirates' glitzy Palm Fountain set a world record as it was declared the largest fountain ever. The Palm Fountain, with multi-coloured lights and jets of water blasting into the night sky is a sight to behold, according to a Reuters report.

The Palm Fountain is located at The Pointe in Dubai's waterfront Palm Jumeirah area. It was unveiled in a launch that was live-streamed around the world.

The Palm Fountain was crowned the Guinness World Record holder for the world's largest fountain, stealing the title from the Banpo Moonlight Rainbow Fountain in South Korea.

Shaddy Gaad, Senior Marketing Manager - MENA at Guinness World Records said:"GWR is delighted to officially see the Palm Fountain breaking the title of the largest fountain. This fountain is an example of another milestone in Dubai's architectural achievements and we are excited to declare it officially amazing."

Spanning over 14,000 square feet of sea water, the Palm Fountain in Dubai features 128 super shooters reaching up to 105 metres in height. The fountain has been decorated with over 3,000 LED lights. It will also show three-minute dancing water displays set to music at an interval of every 30 minutes.

Palm Fountain, which is Dubai's only multicoloured fountain, will be open to the public all year round.
