Glavgosexpertiza of Russia reported on its website that it had issued a positive conclusion for the second stage of the construction of an aircraft landing site on the largest of the islands in the northern part of the Great Kuril ridge.

“In order to solve the problem of the isolation of the Kuril Islands and create conditions for the functioning of a year-round, all-season and regular system of transport communications by sea or by air, a landing site for aircraft is being built on Paramushir Island,” the report says.

The first stage of work includes the construction of the runway, taxiway and fence.

The second stage involves the construction of a service and passenger building of the airport, an apron, a command and control tower and a checkpoint, a complex of radio technical support for flights and meteorological support, placement of lighting equipment with low-intensity lights and other facilities.
