The Sakhalin region is actively engaged in reforestation - this year trees were planted in the region on an area of over 930 hectares. This was reported by the portal of the governor and the government of the region.
"Coniferous trees are used for reforestation on Sakhalin – mainly larch and Ayan spruce. These breeds in the island region are considered forest-forming and predominate in the forest fund, because they take root well and are suitable for the island climate," the message says.
About half a ton of seeds of forest plants have been formed in the region. As noted in the region, taking into account the addition of forest crops, more than three million coniferous seedlings were planted this year. The same amount was grown in nurseries for reforestation activities next year.
"This year, the island region, according to the national Ecology project, reached the indicator "The ratio of the area of reforestation and afforestation to the area of cut down and dead forest plantations" with an overfulfilling of almost 2.5 times," said Roman Ostapenko, head of the Agency for Forestry and Hunting of the Sakhalin Region, quoted by the portal.
