A new species of weevil found in Norilsk

Specialists of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, during an expedition to study biodiversity, discovered a previously unknown species of weevil beetle in the area of Bolshoy Norilsk.

Now they are offering residents of Norilsk - employees of Norilsk Nickel and representatives of municipal services, specialists and public figures – to give a name to the new beetle.

What does it take to give a name to the beetle?

1. In the period from January 22 to January 30, send your name options to the chatbot of the media company in Telegram or by message to the VKontakte group. An expert group, which will include employees of the "Northern City" and representatives of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, will form a shortlist of the most interesting and often suggested name options.

2. From January 31 to February 8, an open vote on the choice of a name will be held on the Severny Gorod website. The winner with the highest number of votes will be announced on February 9th.

3. What is important, we want to name it in Russian, and scientists will take care of the translation in the documents into Latin. To assign a name to the weevil, only one word is needed, and it does not matter whether it is a noun, adjective or participle, compound or with a hyphen. You can even give a surname as a first name.
