A new specially protected natural area (SPNA) of regional importance for the reproduction of the wild reindeer will appear in Yakutia in 2021, as reported by TASS with reference to the Ministry of Ecology of the Republic.

According to the report, the new resource reserve will be called "Alrosa - Rangifer - Chekanovsky", and will cover the area of 64.1 thousand hectares.

Besides deer, 64 bird species and 260-280 species of higher vascular plants can be seen on the territory of the reserve.

The project is named after ALROSA as a gratitude for the firm's contribution to the conservation of the Leno-Olenek population of wild reindeer.

The diamond mining company ALROSA actively supports and finances reindeer herding communities, which contributes to the support of the activities of the indigenous peoples of the North.
