A new ecological trail opened at the beginning of September 2019 in the territory of the Sheremetyevo oak forest at VDNH. It has no replicas in Russia. People can walk at an altitude of 6.5 m and see owls and squirrels who are not at all afraid of people and expect to be given treats.
According to the head of the Department of Architecture and Urban Development of VDNH Maria Novikova, the Eco Trail lies through the park "Wild Nature". Its area covers more than 80 hectares, it is divided into 5 subzones.
“The concept was developed by the French architect,” she added.
Novikova said that the oak grove at VDNH presents the samples of trees listed in the Red Book of Moscow. Sheremetyevo oak forest is home to Quércus róbur. Some trees are more than 300 years old. She noted that the Eco Trail was specially created to give the opportunity of observing those trees at a closer look.
The trail consists of a large number of spans with fences, wandering along the park. The construction is supported by twisted metal supports. The length of the trail is 474 meters, the maximum height is 6.5 meters. In the evening, the trail is illuminated, so you can walk along in the dark. The trail is free of charge.
You can start the walk from the 27th pavilion "Physical Culture and Sports" or from the Linden Alley. The Eco trail has no twins in Russia. Similar structures can be seen in the national parks “Adirondack” (USA), “Bavarian Forest” (Germany) and in the Lipnensk reservoir in the Czech Republic.
