In the Sverdlovsk Region, the area of the Bazhov Places natural park has been increased by 23 thousand hectares. According to the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia the relevant changes were made to the decree of the government of the Sverdlovsk region as part of the national project "Ecology".

The Ministry of Natural Resources says that in addition to increasing the area of the specially protected natural area, the Ecology national project involves the creation of modern recreational infrastructure in nature reserves and national parks.

In the Sverdlovsk region, the share of protected areas should reach 8 percent of its total area. An increase in the area of the Bazhov Places natural park by 22.6 thousand hectares was the first step towards achieving this indicator. Now the area of this natural park exceeds 61 thousand hectares, which is equal to approximately 85 football fields. It now includes lakes Sysert, Big and Small Chernavskoe, as well as rivers, streams and marshes, located within the boundaries of several blocks of the Verkh-Sysert district forestry.

The next step is the expansion of 20 thousand hectares of the territory of the Chusovaya River natural park.
