Ecotourism in Belgian Luxembourg: sleep under the trees

A huge forest in the South of Belgium, located "two steps" from the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, will welcome ecotourism lovers with many pleasant surprises.

The Belgian province of Luxembourg and the neighbouring state, which were for centuries a single territory, are now separated by more than a hundred kilometers of a common formal border.

Before Luxembourg embarked on the path to independence in 1839, it was divided into two parts: the Francophone-inhabited territory was ceded to Belgium, and the territory with inhabitants speaking German became the Grand Duchy proper.

Despite the common historical and territorial roots with the Grand Duchy, the Belgian province of Luxembourg attracts fans of ecotourism with its authenticity.

The outdoor recreation center in the Belgian Ardennes just over a year has gained fame as an ideal place to completely disconnect from the worries of everyday city life.

In autumn 2018, enthusiasts David Bavay and Fabien Ledecq with the support of 170 like-minded people built in the heart of the forest in the commune of Herbeumont a truly paradise complex "Mon Lit dans l'arbre" ("I sleep in a tree"). On an area of three hectares, they built five wooden huts, articulated with tree trunks.

All сonstructions, instilling a sense of isolation from civilization, equipped with everything necessary for recreation, but do not have TV receivers and Internet connection. Environmentally friendly insulation materials and local wood species were used in the construction of the huts.

"Our сonstructions have all the amenities: water, electricity, wood-burning heating, bathroom and a small kitchen. Our credo is friendliness, simplicity, respect for nature and man," the representative of "Mon Lit dans l'arbre" told EcoTourism Expert.

The huts are ideal for families, and are full of surprises for both children and adults. Unlike campsites and traditional cottages, "complex Mon Lit dans l'arbre" is ideally located for exploring the nature of Belgian Luxembourg.

It is the largest province of Belgium with an area of 4 440 sq km and a population of only about 285 thousand inhabitants.
